Dr. Cao Jie ’s Three Key Areas of Expertise
Three areas of focused expertise, each supported by a deep subspecialty team, high case volumes and an English-speaking care pathway coordinated by Orisene.
Colorectal Cancer
Comprehensive radical surgery and minimally invasive laparoscopic treatment for colon and rectal cancer, including sphincter-preserving procedures for low and ultra-low rectal tumors that preserve anal function, reduce surgical trauma, shorten hospital stay and improve quality of life through individualized multidisciplinary team-based care.
Gastric Cancer
Standardized surgical treatment and laparoscopic minimally invasive resection for gastric cancer, including radical gastrectomy with thorough lymph node dissection, aimed at complete tumor removal, faster postoperative recovery and improved long-term survival for patients, supported by individualized perioperative management and enhanced recovery protocols.
Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors
Precise surgical resection of gastrointestinal stromal tumors, combining multidisciplinary cooperation and individualized targeted therapy to manage complex, large or ruptured tumors that invade adjacent organs, thereby improving surgical safety, complete resection rate and long-term prognosis for high-risk patients, ensuring comprehensive oncological care.
More:sphincter-preserving surgery for low rectal cancer——transanal total mesorectal excision; hernia and abdominal wall surgery——tension-free repair; colorectal cancer screening——early detection and prevention; anorectal diseases——surgical treatment; complicated abdominal surgery——management
Selected cases, research & publications
Representative work drawn from documented clinical treatments, publicly indexed literature, and hospital project records, reflecting the depth of this physician's hands-on expertise and academic rigor.
1. Colorectal Cancer Early Screening and Intervention Program
The team built a three-tier screening network linking medical institutions, district CDC centers and community health centers across Guangzhou. The program raised the early detection rate of colorectal cancer from 10.00% to 29.70% and the early diagnosis rate from 81.52% to 92.12%, and received the 2024 Guangdong Science and Technology Progress Award, Second Prize.
2. Simplified TaTME for Sphincter Preservation in Low Rectal Cancer
To overcome the difficulty of sphincter preservation in low rectal cancer, the team proposed a simplified transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME). By optimizing the surgical approach, it improves sphincter preservation for difficult cases such as low tumors, obesity and narrow pelvis, while remaining safe and easy to promote.

3. Novel Molecular Biomarkers for Early Colorectal Cancer Detection
The team identified plasma tRF-GlyGCC and LncRNA PVT1-214 as promising biomarkers for the early diagnosis of colorectal cancer. They also built a prognosis prediction model incorporating immune microenvironment indicators such as CD8_CXCL13 T cells into postoperative monitoring, supporting individualized recurrence risk assessment.

4. Multidisciplinary Rescue of a Ruptured Gastric Stromal Tumor
A 76-year-old patient with a ruptured giant gastric GIST invading the spleen, pancreas and adrenal gland was successfully treated. Under Cao Jie’s multidisciplinary team, combined resection was completed in four hours after emergency bleeding control, and the patient was discharged on day ten without complications.

Why patients travel to China for treatment
Six reasons international patients now put China on their shortlist — from internationally aligned clinical capability to the policy channels that make treatment here genuinely reachable.
Clinical capability at international standard
Chinese hospitals deliver internationally aligned protocols, performing vast volumes of advanced robotic, minimally invasive, and complex transplant surgeries annually. This massive clinical data and highly specialized workforce ensure world-class outcomes, even for rare and complex cases.
Diagnostics and treatment in days, not months
A full medical workup that typically means months of waiting elsewhere is completed in China within 48–72 hours. Imaging, labs, and multidisciplinary consultations are integrated into a single visit, allowing treatment to commence immediately.
Transparent, itemised pricing
Chinese healthcare offers legally binding, itemised cost estimates before treatment begins, eliminating hidden fees or surprise billing. Due to national centralized procurement, total expenses remain 40–70% lower than comparable care in Western Europe or North America.
Policy channels that open the door
China facilitates access through 240-hour visa-free transit and dedicated medical visa routes. Policies like the Greater Bay Area drug pathway and Boao Lecheng’s pilot zone allow designated hospitals to administer innovative therapies not yet globally approved.
