Dr. Chen Rongchang ’s Three Key Areas of Expertise
Three areas of focused expertise, each supported by a deep subspecialty team, high case volumes and an English-speaking care pathway coordinated by Orisene.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
He diagnoses and treats chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with inhaled therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation and exacerbation prevention, using lung function assessment and long-term follow-up to slow lung function decline, reduce acute exacerbations and improve quality of life for patients at all disease stages.
Asthma and airway disease
He manages asthma, chronic cough and bronchiectasis through evidence-based pharmacotherapy, allergen avoidance and airway inflammation monitoring, tailoring treatment to each patient's phenotype and severity to achieve reliable symptom control, preserve lung function and prevent acute attacks and long-term complications in adults and older patients.
Respiratory critical care and non-invasive ventilation
He treats respiratory failure and severe respiratory infection using non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation and weaning strategies, with expertise in respiratory muscle function and diaphragm fatigue, guiding intensive care for critically ill patients with chronic lung disease or acute respiratory deterioration.

Selected cases, research & publications
Representative work drawn from documented clinical treatments, publicly indexed literature, and hospital project records, reflecting the depth of this physician's hands-on expertise and academic rigor.
1. Home noninvasive positive pressure ventilation for stable hypercapnic COPD
A randomized controlled trial conducted by the Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Health that evaluated home noninvasive positive pressure ventilation with built-in monitoring software in patients with stable, severe hypercapnic chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, assessing improvements in arterial blood gases, exacerbation frequency and overall quality of life.
2. Airway microbiome dysbiosis accelerates lung function decline in COPD
A multicenter cohort study investigating how airway bacterial dysbiosis is associated with accelerated decline in lung function among patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, identifying microbial signatures and immune pathways that may guide patient stratification, early intervention and personalized treatment for COPD patients in China.

3. Long-term home noninvasive ventilation and PaCO2 reduction in chronic hypercapnic COPD
A systematic review and meta-analysis of long-term home noninvasive ventilation in patients with chronic hypercapnic respiratory failure due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, demonstrating significant reductions in daytime arterial carbon dioxide levels and hospital admissions while informing long-term ventilation strategies for severe COPD care.

4. Prophylactic noninvasive ventilation after thoracic surgery
A clinical study assessing prophylactic noninvasive positive pressure ventilation to prevent postoperative pulmonary complications and acute respiratory failure in patients undergoing thoracic surgery, supporting early ventilatory support as a lung-protective strategy within perioperative respiratory care for high-risk surgical patients prone to respiratory failure.

5. Home noninvasive ventilation combined with pulmonary rehabilitation in COPD
A recent randomized study evaluating whether combining home noninvasive ventilation with structured pulmonary rehabilitation improves exercise capacity, symptom control and long-term clinical outcomes in patients with stable hypercapnic chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, offering an integrated treatment approach for severe COPD patients with chronic respiratory failure.

6. A multicenter randomized trial of home noninvasive ventilation in hypercapnic COPD
A registered multicenter, randomized controlled trial designed to determine whether long-term home noninvasive positive pressure ventilation reduces hospital readmissions and mortality in patients with stable hypercapnic chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, conducted by the Guangzhou respiratory research group to guide noninvasive ventilation therapy.

Why patients travel to China for treatment
Six reasons international patients now put China on their shortlist — from internationally aligned clinical capability to the policy channels that make treatment here genuinely reachable.
Clinical capability at international standard
Chinese hospitals deliver internationally aligned protocols, performing vast volumes of advanced robotic, minimally invasive, and complex transplant surgeries annually. This massive clinical data and highly specialized workforce ensure world-class outcomes, even for rare and complex cases.
Diagnostics and treatment in days, not months
A full medical workup that typically means months of waiting elsewhere is completed in China within 48–72 hours. Imaging, labs, and multidisciplinary consultations are integrated into a single visit, allowing treatment to commence immediately.
Transparent, itemised pricing
Chinese healthcare offers legally binding, itemised cost estimates before treatment begins, eliminating hidden fees or surprise billing. Due to national centralized procurement, total expenses remain 40–70% lower than comparable care in Western Europe or North America.
Policy channels that open the door
China facilitates access through 240-hour visa-free transit and dedicated medical visa routes. Policies like the Greater Bay Area drug pathway and Boao Lecheng’s pilot zone allow designated hospitals to administer innovative therapies not yet globally approved.
