Dr. Chen Yangxin ’s Three Key Areas of Expertise
Three areas of focused expertise, each supported by a deep subspecialty team, high case volumes and an English-speaking care pathway coordinated by Orisene.
Heart failure
He diagnoses and treats acute and chronic heart failure, integrating guideline-directed medication, device therapy and cardiac rehabilitation to relieve symptoms, reduce repeated hospitalisation and improve long-term survival and quality of life for patients living with ischaemic, valvular or dilated cardiomyopathy.
Cardiac arrhythmia
He manages atrial fibrillation, supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias and unexplained syncope, using antiarrhythmic drugs, catheter ablation, implantable devices and pacemakers to control heart rhythm, prevent stroke and improve symptoms and quality of life in patients with complex, drug-resistant or high-risk rhythm disorders.
Valvular heart disease
He evaluates and treats aortic and mitral valve disease, coordinating transcatheter and surgical intervention with medical therapy to relieve valve obstruction or regurgitation, improve cardiac function and symptoms and guide long-term follow-up for older patients and those at high surgical risk.
More:coronary heart disease——diagnosis and treatment; hypertension——management; cardiac remodelling——research; implantable devices——pacemakers; preventive cardiology——risk control
Selected cases, research & publications
Representative work drawn from documented clinical treatments, publicly indexed literature, and hospital project records, reflecting the depth of this physician's hands-on expertise and academic rigor.
1. Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair in Guangdong
Professor Chen was among the first in Guangdong to perform minimally invasive transcatheter mitral valve repair, fixing a leaking mitral valve through a small puncture instead of open-heart surgery. This lets heart valve disease patients recover faster with less pain, and he trains other cardiologists in the technique.

2. First Tricuspid Valve Clipping in China
Professor Chen pioneered routine transcatheter tricuspid valve clipping and heterotopic tricuspid valve implantation in China. These minimally invasive procedures treat severe tricuspid regurgitation in patients who are too frail for surgery, relieving symptoms such as breathlessness and leg swelling and improving quality of life.
3. Double Valve Replacement under ECMO Support
In a complex case, Professor Chen’s team performed transcatheter double valve replacement on a patient called Mr. Zhang supported by ECMO, replacing both damaged heart valves without stopping the heart. The patient, previously at high surgical risk, recovered, showing a new option for severe valve disease patients.
4. Pacemakers and Cardiac Implantable Devices
Professor Chen is a leading instructor for cardiac implantable devices in China, including pacemakers, ICDs and cardiac contractility modulation. He helps patients with slow heart rhythms, heart failure and sudden cardiac death risk receive the right device, and teaches the next generation of rhythm specialists.

5. Arrhythmia Care and Catheter Ablation
As a heart rhythm specialist, Professor Chen treats atrial fibrillation, tachycardia and other arrhythmias with catheter ablation and drug therapy. He focuses on restoring normal rhythm safely, reducing stroke risk and palpitations, so arrhythmia patients can return to normal activity with fewer hospital visits.
6. Leading Cardiovascular Innovation at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital
Now president of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, Professor Chen combines clinical work with cardiovascular research, leading national key projects and training programmes. His efforts bring advanced heart valve and rhythm therapies to more patients, strengthening cardiovascular care across the region and beyond.

Why patients travel to China for treatment
Six reasons international patients now put China on their shortlist — from internationally aligned clinical capability to the policy channels that make treatment here genuinely reachable.
Clinical capability at international standard
Chinese hospitals deliver internationally aligned protocols, performing vast volumes of advanced robotic, minimally invasive, and complex transplant surgeries annually. This massive clinical data and highly specialized workforce ensure world-class outcomes, even for rare and complex cases.
Diagnostics and treatment in days, not months
A full medical workup that typically means months of waiting elsewhere is completed in China within 48–72 hours. Imaging, labs, and multidisciplinary consultations are integrated into a single visit, allowing treatment to commence immediately.
Transparent, itemised pricing
Chinese healthcare offers legally binding, itemised cost estimates before treatment begins, eliminating hidden fees or surprise billing. Due to national centralized procurement, total expenses remain 40–70% lower than comparable care in Western Europe or North America.
Policy channels that open the door
China facilitates access through 240-hour visa-free transit and dedicated medical visa routes. Policies like the Greater Bay Area drug pathway and Boao Lecheng’s pilot zone allow designated hospitals to administer innovative therapies not yet globally approved.
