About Dr. Du Xin

Dr. Du Xin is Chief Expert, academic leader of haematology and Director of the Department of Internal Medicine at Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital. He has worked in blood diseases for more than three decades and is a recognised authority on myelodysplastic syndromes and myeloproliferative neoplasms. His clinical and translational research focuses on the molecular diagnosis, disease monitoring and precision treatment of myeloid malignancies, and his team has led studies on decitabine therapy and WT1 monitoring in MDS. He serves as vice-chair of the MDS/MPN working group of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association and leads a provincial precision haematology society.

Dr. Du Xin ’s Three Key Areas of Expertise

Three areas of focused expertise, each supported by a deep subspecialty team, high case volumes and an English-speaking care pathway coordinated by Orisene.

Myelodysplastic syndromes

He diagnoses and treats myelodysplastic syndromes with hypomethylating agents, supportive care and individualized strategies, using molecular and cytogenetic profiling to carefully assess risk and guide treatment for patients in China with this challenging group of bone marrow disorders over the long term.

Myeloproliferative neoplasms

He manages polycythaemia vera, essential thrombocythaemia and myelofibrosis, carefully monitoring disease progression and using targeted and cytoreductive therapy to control blood counts and reduce the risk of thrombosis, bleeding and transformation, improving long-term outcomes and quality of life for patients with these diseases.

Leukaemia and lymphoma

He provides comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for acute and chronic leukaemias and lymphomas, integrating chemotherapy, targeted agents, immunotherapy and transplantation within multidisciplinary care to improve remission rates, reduce relapse and extend long-term survival and quality of life in adult and older patients.

More: anaemia——diagnosis and treatment; thrombocytopenia——management; multiple myeloma——systemic therapy; bone marrow failure——evaluation; haematological malignancy——precision diagnosis

Selected cases, research & publications

Representative work drawn from documented clinical treatments, publicly indexed literature, and hospital project records, reflecting the depth of this physician's hands-on expertise and academic rigor.
1. Decitabine Combined With HLA-Mismatched Micro-Transplantation for Intermediate/High-Risk MDS
An investigator-led study evaluated decitabine, a hypomethylating agent, combined with HLA-mismatched hematopoietic stem cell micro-transplantation in adults with intermediate or high-risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). The combination achieved a median overall survival of 24 months versus 14.3 months with decitabine alone, with higher response rates and no graft-versus-host disease, offering a promising treatment option for MDS patients.
2. Retrospective Evaluation of Two Hypomethylating Agents in Myelodysplastic Syndrome
A single-center retrospective study led by Professor Xin Du compared decitabine and azacitidine, the two hypomethylating agents approved for myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) in China, based on two clinical trials. It summarized efficacy and safety for intermediate and higher-risk MDS patients, helping clinicians choose the appropriate demethylating therapy and supporting individualized treatment for patients with cytopenia and blast excess.
3. Dynamic PD-1 Monitoring to Predict Treatment Response in Higher-Risk MDS
In a cohort of 135 patients with intermediate or high-risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) treated at Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital, Professor Xin Du’s team showed that PD-1 expression rises during the first hypomethylating agent cycles. Elevated PD-1 after two cycles predicted leukemia transformation and poorer survival, guiding immune checkpoint inhibitor combination therapy for MDS patients.
4. RUNX1 and ASXL1 Co-Mutations Predict Poor Response to Hypomethylating Agents in MDS
Analyzing 84 adults with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) receiving hypomethylating agents, Professor Xin Du’s group found that RUNX1 mutations frequently co-occur with ASXL1 mutations and predict a poor response and shorter overall survival. This molecular profiling helps identify high-risk MDS patients early and guides more personalized treatment decisions.
5. Decitabine Response Biomarkers in Myelodysplastic Syndrome
Professor Xin Du’s team investigated the hENT1 and DCK genes as determinants of clinical response to decitabine in patients with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). Their findings linked gene expression levels to treatment outcomes, providing a molecular basis to select MDS patients most likely to benefit from decitabine and to optimize hypomethylating therapy.
6. Phase IIIb Clinical Trial of Decitabine in Chinese Patients With Intermediate/High-Risk MDS
A registered phase IIIb clinical trial (NCT01751867) conducted in China evaluated decitabine, a DNA methyltransferase inhibitor, for treating intermediate and high-risk myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). The study was conducted at Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital and generated evidence on decitabine dosing, response rates and survival, guiding hypomethylating therapy for Chinese MDS patients.

  • WHY INTERNATIONAL PATIENTS CHOOSE CHINA

Why patients travel to China for treatment

Six reasons international patients now put China on their shortlist — from internationally aligned clinical capability to the policy channels that make treatment here genuinely reachable.

Clinical capability at international standard

Chinese hospitals deliver internationally aligned protocols, performing vast volumes of advanced robotic, minimally invasive, and complex transplant surgeries annually. This massive clinical data and highly specialized workforce ensure world-class outcomes, even for rare and complex cases.

Diagnostics and treatment in days, not months

A full medical workup that typically means months of waiting elsewhere is completed in China within 48–72 hours. Imaging, labs, and multidisciplinary consultations are integrated into a single visit, allowing treatment to commence immediately.

Transparent, itemised pricing

Chinese healthcare offers legally binding, itemised cost estimates before treatment begins, eliminating hidden fees or surprise billing. Due to national centralized procurement, total expenses remain 40–70% lower than comparable care in Western Europe or North America.

Policy channels that open the door

China facilitates access through 240-hour visa-free transit and dedicated medical visa routes. Policies like the Greater Bay Area drug pathway and Boao Lecheng’s pilot zone allow designated hospitals to administer innovative therapies not yet globally approved.
