Dr. Duan Chuanzhi ’s Three Key Areas of Expertise
Three areas of focused expertise, each supported by a deep subspecialty team, high case volumes and an English-speaking care pathway coordinated by Orisene.
Intracranial aneurysm embolisation
Professor Duan treats ruptured and unruptured intracranial aneurysms with coil embolisation, stent-assisted coiling and flow-diverter devices, using advanced endovascular techniques to seal the aneurysm, protect the parent artery and prevent fatal rebleeding in patients with this life-threatening cerebrovascular condition in routine clinical practice.
Cerebral arteriovenous malformation
He provides endovascular embolisation for cerebral arteriovenous malformations and dural arteriovenous fistulas, planning treatment with imaging to obliterate abnormal vessels, reduce haemorrhage risk and control symptoms while preserving normal brain function for patients with these complex vascular lesions in routine practice.
Carotid-cavernous fistula and arterial stenosis
Professor Duan manages carotid-cavernous fistulas and symptomatic intracranial and carotid artery stenosis, using endovascular coiling, stenting and balloon techniques to close abnormal shunts, restore cerebral blood flow and relieve symptoms for patients with these challenging cerebrovascular disorders in daily practice.
More:subarachnoid haemorrhage——emergency care; stroke——thrombolysis; spinal vascular malformation——embolisation; cerebral revascularisation——bypass; neurointerventional training——education
Selected cases, research & publications
Representative work drawn from documented clinical treatments, publicly indexed literature, and hospital project records, reflecting the depth of this physician's hands-on expertise and academic rigor.
1. Pipeline Shield Versus Pipeline Flex Flow Diversion for Intracranial Aneurysms
This propensity-matched multicentre study compared the surface-modified Pipeline Shield with the classic Pipeline Flex flow diverter in patients with unruptured intracranial aneurysms. It evaluated aneurysm occlusion, in-stent stenosis and complications after endovascular treatment, helping neurointerventionists choose the optimal device for complex cerebral aneurysm patients seeking minimally invasive repair.

2. Half-Dose Ticagrelor Versus Clopidogrel After Flow-Diverter Treatment of Intracranial Aneurysms
This clinical study assessed a half-dose ticagrelor dual antiplatelet regimen compared with standard clopidogrel after flow-diverter implantation for intracranial aneurysms. It focused on platelet inhibition, thromboembolic and haemorrhagic events, and clinical outcomes, offering antiplatelet treatment guidance for patients undergoing endovascular aneurysm repair.

3. The FLATS Score for Periprocedural Ischemic Events After Stent-Assisted Coiling of Ruptured Aneurysms
This study developed the FLATS score to predict periprocedural ischemic events in patients receiving stent-assisted coiling for ruptured intracranial aneurysms. By combining imaging and clinical variables, the model helps physicians stratify risk, optimise antiplatelet therapy and improve the safety of emergency endovascular treatment for subarachnoid haemorrhage patients.

4. Endovascular Thrombectomy for Large-Core Infarction: Leptomeningeal Collateral Status
This imaging study examined how leptomeningeal collateral status influences outcomes of endovascular thrombectomy in acute ischemic stroke with large-core infarction. It provides evidence for selecting stroke patients who may still benefit from mechanical thrombectomy despite an extensive infarct core, supporting individualised reperfusion treatment.

5. Sex Differences in Aneurysmal Wall Enhancement of Intracranial Aneurysms
Using high-resolution vessel wall magnetic resonance imaging, this study analysed sex-specific predictors of aneurysmal wall enhancement, a marker of aneurysm instability and rupture risk. The findings help clinicians tailor imaging surveillance and treatment decisions for men and women with unruptured intracranial aneurysms.

6. Stage-Specific Gut Microbiome Metabolites in Intracranial Aneurysms
This Gut study integrated metagenomic and metabolomic profiling to reveal distinctive stage-specific gut-microbiome-derived metabolites in intracranial aneurysms. It links microbial metabolism to aneurysm formation and rupture, suggesting new biomarkers and non-invasive strategies for screening and preventing cerebral aneurysms in high-risk patients.

Why patients travel to China for treatment
Six reasons international patients now put China on their shortlist — from internationally aligned clinical capability to the policy channels that make treatment here genuinely reachable.
Clinical capability at international standard
Chinese hospitals deliver internationally aligned protocols, performing vast volumes of advanced robotic, minimally invasive, and complex transplant surgeries annually. This massive clinical data and highly specialized workforce ensure world-class outcomes, even for rare and complex cases.
Diagnostics and treatment in days, not months
A full medical workup that typically means months of waiting elsewhere is completed in China within 48–72 hours. Imaging, labs, and multidisciplinary consultations are integrated into a single visit, allowing treatment to commence immediately.
Transparent, itemised pricing
Chinese healthcare offers legally binding, itemised cost estimates before treatment begins, eliminating hidden fees or surprise billing. Due to national centralized procurement, total expenses remain 40–70% lower than comparable care in Western Europe or North America.
Policy channels that open the door
China facilitates access through 240-hour visa-free transit and dedicated medical visa routes. Policies like the Greater Bay Area drug pathway and Boao Lecheng’s pilot zone allow designated hospitals to administer innovative therapies not yet globally approved.
