Dr. Hu Pinjin ’s Three Key Areas of Expertise
Three areas of focused expertise, each supported by a deep subspecialty team, high case volumes and an English-speaking care pathway coordinated by Orisene.
Inflammatory bowel disease
He diagnoses and treats Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis with individualised medical therapy, including immunosuppressants, biologics and therapeutic drug monitoring, so that patients achieve lasting remission, avoid complications and maintain a good quality of life over the long term in daily practice.
Helicobacter pylori infection
He manages Helicobacter pylori infection and its related diseases, using appropriate eradication regimens and follow-up testing, so that peptic ulcers and gastric inflammation are controlled and the risk of gastric cancer is reduced for patients at home and abroad in everyday care.
Functional gastrointestinal disorders
He treats functional dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome and other functional gastrointestinal disorders with careful evaluation, dietary advice, drug therapy and attention to psychological factors, so that troublesome symptoms improve and patients regain confidence in daily life and long-term wellbeing over time.
More: chronic liver disease——diagnosis and treatment; small bowel disease——endoscopy; chronic diarrhoea——evaluation; peptic ulcer——treatment; gastrointestinal bleeding——management
Selected cases, research & publications
Representative work drawn from documented clinical treatments, publicly indexed literature, and hospital project records, reflecting the depth of this physician's hands-on expertise and academic rigor.
1. EXPLORE Study: Suboptimal Response to Anti-TNF Therapy in Chinese IBD Patients
This multicenter analysis evaluated how often patients with inflammatory bowel disease in China respond poorly to first-line anti-TNF therapy, identifying clinical indicators of suboptimal response. It helps clinicians adjust biologic treatment earlier for ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease patients who may not benefit sufficiently.

2. Thalidomide for Refractory Crohn’s Disease: A Randomized Controlled Trial
This double-blind, double-center randomized controlled trial tested thalidomide in adults with refractory Crohn’s disease, assessing clinical efficacy and safety. The results support an immunomodulatory option for patients whose Crohn’s disease has not responded to conventional or biologic therapies, guiding difficult treatment decisions.

3. Ustekinumab Dose Escalation in Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Meta-Analysis
This systematic review and meta-analysis examined loss of response to ustekinumab and the benefit of dose escalation in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. It offers practical guidance for managing patients who lose response during maintenance biologic therapy in real-world practice.

4. Genotype-Guided Thiopurine Dosing to Reduce Leukopenia in IBD
This study investigated DNA-thioguanine nucleotides as a marker for thiopurine-induced leukopenia after NUDT15 genotype-guided dosing in Chinese patients with inflammatory bowel disease. It supports safer, personalized thiopurine treatment and lower blood-toxicity risk for IBD patients needing immunomodulators in clinical practice.

5. Endoscopic Stricturotomy for Small Bowel Strictures in Crohn’s Disease
This report with video describes device-assisted enteroscopy-based stricturotomy for small bowel strictures associated with Crohn’s disease, an endoscopic alternative to surgery. It is relevant for patients with Crohn’s-related intestinal narrowing who wish to avoid or delay bowel resection in selected cases.

Why patients travel to China for treatment
Six reasons international patients now put China on their shortlist — from internationally aligned clinical capability to the policy channels that make treatment here genuinely reachable.
Clinical capability at international standard
Chinese hospitals deliver internationally aligned protocols, performing vast volumes of advanced robotic, minimally invasive, and complex transplant surgeries annually. This massive clinical data and highly specialized workforce ensure world-class outcomes, even for rare and complex cases.
Diagnostics and treatment in days, not months
A full medical workup that typically means months of waiting elsewhere is completed in China within 48–72 hours. Imaging, labs, and multidisciplinary consultations are integrated into a single visit, allowing treatment to commence immediately.
Transparent, itemised pricing
Chinese healthcare offers legally binding, itemised cost estimates before treatment begins, eliminating hidden fees or surprise billing. Due to national centralized procurement, total expenses remain 40–70% lower than comparable care in Western Europe or North America.
Policy channels that open the door
China facilitates access through 240-hour visa-free transit and dedicated medical visa routes. Policies like the Greater Bay Area drug pathway and Boao Lecheng’s pilot zone allow designated hospitals to administer innovative therapies not yet globally approved.
