About Dr. Rong Limin
Professor Rong Limin is Director of Spine Surgery and academic leader of orthopaedics at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, and former President of the hospital. He has devoted more than thirty years to spine surgery, specialising in minimally invasive treatment of degenerative disease, deformity and infection, and in comprehensive spinal cord injury care. He pioneered ultrasound-fusion navigated endoscopic spine surgery in China and introduced axial lumbar interbody fusion in Asia, and he leads national multi-centre clinical trials of stem cell therapy for spinal cord injury. A chief scientist of a National Key R&D Programme project, he serves as Executive President of the International Society for Endoscopic Spine Surgery.

Dr. Rong Limin ’s Three Key Areas of Expertise
Three areas of focused expertise, each supported by a deep subspecialty team, high case volumes and an English-speaking care pathway coordinated by Orisene.
Minimally invasive spine surgery
He performs endoscopic and minimally invasive surgery for lumbar disc herniation, spinal stenosis and spondylolisthesis, using ultrasound-fusion navigation and small incisions to decompress compressed nerves, preserve spinal stability and speed functional recovery for patients living with degenerative spinal disease in routine clinical practice.
Spinal deformity and infection
He treats degenerative and congenital spinal deformity and spinal infection, planning individualised corrective surgery to restore spinal alignment, remove infected tissue and stabilise the spine while protecting neurological function for patients with these complex, high-risk spinal conditions in routine clinical practice.
Spinal cord injury
He provides comprehensive care for spinal cord injury, combining early surgery, rehabilitation and stem cell clinical trials, and leads national multi-centre research that aims to restore sensory and motor function and improve the quality of life of patients with traumatic spinal cord damage.
More: cervical spondylosis——minimally invasive surgery; spinal tumour——resection; osteoporosis——vertebroplasty; axial lumbar interbody fusion——pioneer; spinal trauma——stabilisation
Selected cases, research & publications
Representative work drawn from documented clinical treatments, publicly indexed literature, and hospital project records, reflecting the depth of this physician's hands-on expertise and academic rigor.
1. PLIN2-PGAM5 Lipid Droplet-Mitochondria Contacts Drive Neuroinflammation After Spinal Cord Injury
This study showed that PLIN2-PGAM5-regulated lipid droplet-mitochondria contacts drive microglial neuroinflammation after spinal cord injury via fatty acid metabolic reprogramming. Blocking this interaction reduced inflammation and improved hindlimb motor recovery, suggesting a metabolic target for patients with spinal cord injury and chronic neuroinflammation.

2. Clinical Trial Landscape of Cell Therapy for Spinal Cord Injury
This article reviews the clinical trial landscape of cell therapy for spinal cord injury, from integrated practices to future developments. It summarizes stem cell approaches and outcome measures, helping clinicians and patients understand emerging regenerative options for restoring function after spinal cord injury.

3. From Scar Walls to Neural Bridges: Next-Generation Spinal Cord Injury Repair
This review describes a convergent paradigm for next-generation spinal cord injury repair, moving from scar walls to neural bridges. It outlines biomaterial and regenerative strategies to reconnect neural circuits and improve motor and sensory recovery in patients with traumatic spinal cord injury.

4. Zdhhc17 Promotes Functional Recovery After Spinal Cord Injury
This study found that the palmitoyl acyltransferase Zdhhc17 promotes functional recovery after spinal cord injury by targeting the nuclear transport factors Kpna2 and Ipo9. The pathway sheds light on neural repair mechanisms and potential treatments for patients with spinal cord injury.

5. Engineering Functional Vasculatures for Bladder Function After Spinal Cord Injury
Researchers engineered functional vasculatures to reconstruct sympathetic-parasympathetic neural circuits that support bladder function after spinal cord injury. This tissue-engineering approach aims to restore bladder control, addressing a major quality-of-life problem for patients living with neurogenic bladder, urinary dysfunction and poor quality of life.

6. CCL2-CCR2 Signaling in Traumatic and Autoimmune Central Nervous System Disorders
This study shows that context-dependent CCL2-CCR2 signaling drives distinct immune infiltration programs in traumatic and autoimmune central nervous system disorders, including spinal cord injury and multiple sclerosis. The insight helps design targeted immunotherapies to modulate neuroinflammation and support neural repair after spinal cord injury.

Why patients travel to China for treatment
Six reasons international patients now put China on their shortlist — from internationally aligned clinical capability to the policy channels that make treatment here genuinely reachable.
Clinical capability at international standard
Chinese hospitals deliver internationally aligned protocols, performing vast volumes of advanced robotic, minimally invasive, and complex transplant surgeries annually. This massive clinical data and highly specialized workforce ensure world-class outcomes, even for rare and complex cases.
Diagnostics and treatment in days, not months
A full medical workup that typically means months of waiting elsewhere is completed in China within 48–72 hours. Imaging, labs, and multidisciplinary consultations are integrated into a single visit, allowing treatment to commence immediately.
Transparent, itemised pricing
Chinese healthcare offers legally binding, itemised cost estimates before treatment begins, eliminating hidden fees or surprise billing. Due to national centralized procurement, total expenses remain 40–70% lower than comparable care in Western Europe or North America.
Policy channels that open the door
China facilitates access through 240-hour visa-free transit and dedicated medical visa routes. Policies like the Greater Bay Area drug pathway and Boao Lecheng’s pilot zone allow designated hospitals to administer innovative therapies not yet globally approved.
