About Dr. Shen Jingnan
Professor Shen Jingnan is academic leader of the Bone Tumour Department at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and a professor of orthopaedic surgery. He has devoted more than thirty years to bone and soft-tissue tumours, with expertise in preoperative needle biopsy diagnosis, limb-salvage surgery for malignant bone tumours, and the resection and reconstruction of pelvic and spinal tumours. He also uses chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy to treat malignant bone tumours and is particularly experienced in limb-salvage surgery for children, helping young patients keep their limbs and function.

Dr. Shen Jingnan ’s Three Key Areas of Expertise
Three areas of focused expertise, each supported by a deep subspecialty team, high case volumes and an English-speaking care pathway coordinated by Orisene.
Malignant bone tumours
He diagnoses and treats osteosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma and other malignant bone tumours with limb-salvage surgery, chemotherapy and targeted therapy, planning resection to remove the tumour completely while preserving the limb and its function for patients of all ages in clinical practice.
Limb-salvage surgery in children
He performs limb-salvage surgery and reconstructive procedures in children with bone tumours, using customised prostheses, vascularised bone grafts and lengthening techniques to remove the tumour while preserving limb length, growth and function for young patients as they grow and develop into adulthood.
Pelvic and spinal tumour resection
He performs complex resection and reconstruction of pelvic and spinal tumours, and soft-tissue sarcoma surgery, combining surgical skill with chemotherapy and immunotherapy to control disease and preserve function in patients with difficult, high-risk tumours and extensive disease in routine clinical practice.
More:soft-tissue sarcoma——surgery; bone metastasis——treatment; biopsy diagnosis——needle biopsy; prosthetic reconstruction——limb salvage; paediatric bone tumour——management

1. Chromosomal Translocation-Derived Rab22a Fusion Proteins Drive Osteosarcoma Lung Metastasis
This landmark study identified RAB22A exon-intron fusion genes in osteosarcoma that produce Rab22a-NeoF fusion proteins. These proteins release GTP-bound RhoA via SmgGDS-607 and promote pulmonary metastasis. A synthetic blocking peptide prevented lung metastasis in orthotopic models, revealing a promising therapeutic target for osteosarcoma patients with lung metastasis.

2. Targeting Super-Enhancer-Associated Oncogenes with the CDK7 Inhibitor THZ2
This study showed that super-enhancer-associated oncogenes drive osteosarcoma malignancy. The covalent CDK7 inhibitor THZ2 selectively suppressed these oncogenic transcriptional programs, inhibiting tumour growth and metastasis in vitro and in vivo. Targeting super-enhancer-driven transcription with THZ2 represents a promising therapeutic strategy for patients with osteosarcoma, especially those with aggressive or chemoresistant disease.
3. Telangiectatic Osteosarcoma: Outcomes and a Diagnostic Model to Distinguish It from Aneurysmal Bone Cyst
Reviewing 51 telangiectatic osteosarcoma patients treated at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University, this study defined diagnostic and prognostic factors distinguishing this rare subtype from aneurysmal bone cyst. A Bayes discriminant model using age, pathological fracture and blood markers improved diagnostic accuracy. Smaller tumours and normal LDH predicted better survival, guiding clinical management.

4. MCT1 Downregulation Suppresses Osteosarcoma Growth and Metastasis via NF-kB
This study demonstrated that monocarboxylate transporter 1 (MCT1) is overexpressed in osteosarcoma and supports tumour growth and metastasis. Downregulating MCT1 inhibited proliferation, invasion and metastasis through suppression of the NF-kB signalling pathway. The findings highlight MCT1 as a potential molecular target and prognostic marker, offering a rationale for targeted therapy in osteosarcoma patients with aggressive disease.

5. Cordycepin Enhances Osteosarcoma Chemosensitivity to Cisplatin via AMPK Activation
This study showed that cordycepin, a natural nucleoside analogue, inhibits osteosarcoma proliferation and invasion and induces apoptosis by activating AMPK and suppressing AKT/mTOR signalling. Combining cordycepin with cisplatin markedly enhanced chemosensitivity in vitro and in vivo. The results suggest cordycepin as a promising agent to overcome chemotherapy resistance and improve outcomes for osteosarcoma patients.
6. Long Non-Coding RNA DANCR Promotes Osteosarcoma Progression and Cancer Stemness
This study revealed that the long non-coding RNA DANCR is elevated in osteosarcoma tissues and promotes proliferation, invasion and stemness. DANCR upregulates the receptor tyrosine kinase AXL by competitively binding miR-33a-5p, activating PI3K-AKT signalling. High DANCR expression correlates with tumour size and metastasis and independently predicts poor prognosis, suggesting a valuable biomarker and therapeutic target.

Why patients travel to China for treatment
Six reasons international patients now put China on their shortlist — from internationally aligned clinical capability to the policy channels that make treatment here genuinely reachable.
Clinical capability at international standard
Chinese hospitals deliver internationally aligned protocols, performing vast volumes of advanced robotic, minimally invasive, and complex transplant surgeries annually. This massive clinical data and highly specialized workforce ensure world-class outcomes, even for rare and complex cases.
Diagnostics and treatment in days, not months
A full medical workup that typically means months of waiting elsewhere is completed in China within 48–72 hours. Imaging, labs, and multidisciplinary consultations are integrated into a single visit, allowing treatment to commence immediately.
Transparent, itemised pricing
Chinese healthcare offers legally binding, itemised cost estimates before treatment begins, eliminating hidden fees or surprise billing. Due to national centralized procurement, total expenses remain 40–70% lower than comparable care in Western Europe or North America.
Policy channels that open the door
China facilitates access through 240-hour visa-free transit and dedicated medical visa routes. Policies like the Greater Bay Area drug pathway and Boao Lecheng’s pilot zone allow designated hospitals to administer innovative therapies not yet globally approved.
