About Dr. Tan Haibin

Dr. Tan Haibin graduated from the Department of Clinical Medicine at Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences in 1991 and has devoted more than two decades to cardiac electrophysiology. A chief physician at Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital, he heads Cardiology Ward I and the Atrial Fibrillation Center and serves as Electrophysiology Technical Director of Fosun Healthcare. He is one of Guangdong's earliest atrial fibrillation ablation operators and the first in Foshan to perform the procedure, with over 7,000 ablations completed by 2022. His interests include complex arrhythmia mapping, pulsed-field ablation, cardiac pacing and left atrial appendage closure. He has published widely and received the Foshan Science and Technology Progress Award.
1. Graduated from Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences in 1991 and worked in the Department of Cardiology at Foshan First People’s Hospital before joining Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital.
2. Has practiced catheter ablation of tachyarrhythmias for over 20 years, completing more than 7,000 procedures by 2022.
3. One of the earliest physicians in Guangdong and the first in Foshan to perform catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation.
4. Named in the Guangdong Family Doctors Association “Lingnan Famous Doctors Directory” in both 2019 and 2020.
5. Won the third prize of the Foshan Science and Technology Progress Award for “Catheter radiofrequency ablation with pulmonary vein electrical isolation for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.”
6. Has co-edited multiple cardiovascular medical monographs and published more than ten professional papers on cardiac electrophysiology and ablation.

Dr. Tan Haibin ’s Three Key Areas of Expertise

Three areas of focused expertise, each supported by a deep subspecialty team, high case volumes and an English-speaking care pathway coordinated by Orisene.

Catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation

Performs radiofrequency and pulsed-field ablation for paroxysmal and persistent atrial fibrillation, including pulmonary vein isolation under three-dimensional mapping; one of the earliest physicians in Guangdong and the first in Foshan to perform AF ablation, with over 7,000 cumulative procedures by 2022.

Complex arrhythmia mapping and ablation

Treats atrial flutter, atrial tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, premature ventricular contractions and reentrant supraventricular tachycardia using high-density three-dimensional electroanatomical mapping systems such as EnSite NavX, Rhythmia and non-contact mapping for precise target localization, providing accurate diagnosis and durable results for difficult arrhythmias.

Left atrial appendage closure and stroke prevention

Performs left atrial appendage occlusion for high-stroke-risk atrial fibrillation patients who cannot tolerate long-term anticoagulation, using CT-guided pre-procedural sizing and devices such as the SeaLA system to reduce stroke and bleeding risk, thereby lowering both thromboembolic and hemorrhagic complications.

More specialties: cardiac pacing and electrophysiology, pacemaker / ICD / CRT implantation, leadless pacemaker, Marshall ethanol ablation for persistent AF, cardioneuroablation, management of critical cardiovascular disease

Selected cases, research & publications

Representative work drawn from documented clinical treatments, publicly indexed literature, and hospital project records, reflecting the depth of this physician's hands-on expertise and academic rigor.
1. CT-Guided SeaLA Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion in a Complex Case
Guided by CT pre-procedural assessment, Dr. Tan Haibin’s team successfully implanted a SeaLA left atrial appendage occluder in a 74-year-old man with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation and a large, challenging appendage, demonstrating precise sizing and stable release. This case highlights image-guided planning for stroke prevention in high-risk patients.
2. First Atrial Fibrillation Ablation Using DIRECTSENSE Local Impedance
Under Dr. Tan Haibin’s guidance, Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital completed three atrial fibrillation radiofrequency ablation cases using the DIRECTSENSE local impedance technology on the RHYTHMIA HDx mapping system, obtaining real-time ablation feedback. The technology helps physicians optimize lesion delivery and improve procedural safety.
3. 2025 Guangdong Symposium on AF Stroke Prevention and Complex Ablation
Dr. Tan Haibin served as executive chairman of the 2025 Guangdong Symposium on AF Stroke Prevention and Complex Ablation, which gathered nearly forty cardiovascular experts to discuss complex mapping, stroke prevention and emerging technologies. The event highlighted advances in left atrial appendage closure and pulsed-field ablation.
4. Early Pulmonary Vein Isolation for Persistent Atrial Fibrillation (2003)
In 2003, while at Foshan First People’s Hospital, Dr. Tan Haibin performed catheter pulmonary vein electrical isolation for a 67-year-old patient with persistent atrial fibrillation, one of the earliest such procedures in China. The technique eliminated the abnormal electrical impulses triggering the arrhythmia.
5. Radiofrequency Ablation of Ventricular Arrhythmias Near the Mitral Annulus
Dr. Tan Haibin published a clinical analysis of radiofrequency ablation for ventricular arrhythmias originating near the mitral annulus, reporting a 95.8% success rate, 4.2% recurrence and 2.1% complication rate in 48 patients. The study showed surface ECG features are useful for guiding mapping and ablation.
6. First FARAPULSE Pulsed-Field Ablation in Foshan
Dr. Tan Haibin and Professor Peng Yucheng performed the first FARAPULSE pulsed-field ablation in Foshan on a 62-year-old patient with an eight-year history of atrial fibrillation, among the first such procedures in mainland China. The nonthermal energy selectively targets myocardium, shortening procedure time and reducing complications.

  • WHY INTERNATIONAL PATIENTS CHOOSE CHINA

Why patients travel to China for treatment

Six reasons international patients now put China on their shortlist — from internationally aligned clinical capability to the policy channels that make treatment here genuinely reachable.

Clinical capability at international standard

Chinese hospitals deliver internationally aligned protocols, performing vast volumes of advanced robotic, minimally invasive, and complex transplant surgeries annually. This massive clinical data and highly specialized workforce ensure world-class outcomes, even for rare and complex cases.

Diagnostics and treatment in days, not months

A full medical workup that typically means months of waiting elsewhere is completed in China within 48–72 hours. Imaging, labs, and multidisciplinary consultations are integrated into a single visit, allowing treatment to commence immediately.

Transparent, itemised pricing

Chinese healthcare offers legally binding, itemised cost estimates before treatment begins, eliminating hidden fees or surprise billing. Due to national centralized procurement, total expenses remain 40–70% lower than comparable care in Western Europe or North America.

Policy channels that open the door

China facilitates access through 240-hour visa-free transit and dedicated medical visa routes. Policies like the Greater Bay Area drug pathway and Boao Lecheng’s pilot zone allow designated hospitals to administer innovative therapies not yet globally approved.
