Dr. Tu Xiangan ’s Three Key Areas of Expertise
Three areas of focused expertise, each supported by a deep subspecialty team, high case volumes and an English-speaking care pathway coordinated by Orisene.
Prostate disease
Professor Tu Xiang'an diagnoses and treats benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostatitis and prostate cancer, using medication, minimally invasive surgery and individualised monitoring to relieve urinary symptoms and protect long-term urinary and sexual function for men who seek care in routine clinical practice.
Male infertility
He evaluates and treats male infertility caused by varicocele, ductal obstruction, infection and severe sperm disorders, performing microsurgical varicocelectomy and vasoepididymostomy and coordinating assisted reproduction to help couples achieve pregnancy and biological parenthood for couples affected by this distressing condition in routine andrology practice.
Erectile dysfunction
He diagnoses and treats erectile dysfunction and related sexual disorders, integrating vascular assessment, hormonal testing, medication and lifestyle counselling to restore erectile function and improve the confidence and quality of life of men affected by these common sexual problems in routine clinical practice.
More: penile deformity——surgical correction; reproductive system tumours——diagnosis and surgery; azoospermia——microsurgical treatment; prostatitis——management; male reproductive health——consultation
Selected cases, research & publications
Representative work drawn from documented clinical treatments, publicly indexed literature, and hospital project records, reflecting the depth of this physician's hands-on expertise and academic rigor.
1. Microsurgical Varicocelectomy With or Without Testicular Delivery
A meta-analysis co-authored by Professor Tu Xiangan compared microsurgical subinguinal varicocelectomy with and without testicular delivery in men with varicocele and impaired fertility. The pooled evidence helped clarify the impact of different microsurgical techniques on sperm parameters and pain, guiding surgeons toward better outcomes for infertility patients.

2. Ligating Gubernacular Veins in Microsurgical Varicocelectomy
Professor Tu Xiangan described a refined microsurgical subinguinal varicocelectomy technique that includes delivery of the testis and ligation of gubernacular veins. This operative approach improves venous ligation completeness and may lower recurrence in men with varicocele-related pain or subfertility, offering andrologists a reproducible microsurgical standard.

3. Water-Jet Robotic Prostatectomy for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
In 2019 Professor Tu Xiangan was among the first in China to perform water-jet robotic prostatectomy. The technique uses a high-velocity saline jet to selectively remove hyperplastic prostate tissue while preserving vessels, nerves and the urethra, reducing bleeding and speeding recovery for men with benign prostatic hyperplasia and lower urinary tract symptoms.

4. Asia’s First Microscopic Spermatic Cord Denervation for Chronic Testicular Pain
Chronic orchialgia is often disabling and poorly treated. Professor Tu Xiangan completed Asia’s first microscopic spermatic cord denervation, a microsurgical procedure that selectively interrupts pain-carrying nerve fibers around the spermatic cord while sparing testicular function. It offers lasting pain relief for men who have exhausted conservative treatments.

5. Modified Single-Stitch Microsurgical Vasoepididymostomy
Obstructive azoospermia from epididymal blockage can be corrected by microsurgical vasoepididymostomy. Professor Tu Xiangan first reported a modified single-stitch technique and a naked-eye 3D-assisted approach, simplifying the anastomosis while achieving patency. These innovations expand access to reconstructive surgery for men seeking natural conception after vasectomy or infection.

6. Advancing Microsurgical Andrology and Prostate Care
Professor Tu Xiangan combines minimally invasive prostate surgery with microsurgical andrology for complex male cases, including ejaculatory duct obstruction, varicocele, erectile dysfunction and genital reconstruction. His integrated expertise supports patients seeking treatment for both prostate disease and male infertility at dedicated subspecialty clinics.

Why patients travel to China for treatment
Six reasons international patients now put China on their shortlist — from internationally aligned clinical capability to the policy channels that make treatment here genuinely reachable.
Clinical capability at international standard
Chinese hospitals deliver internationally aligned protocols, performing vast volumes of advanced robotic, minimally invasive, and complex transplant surgeries annually. This massive clinical data and highly specialized workforce ensure world-class outcomes, even for rare and complex cases.
Diagnostics and treatment in days, not months
A full medical workup that typically means months of waiting elsewhere is completed in China within 48–72 hours. Imaging, labs, and multidisciplinary consultations are integrated into a single visit, allowing treatment to commence immediately.
Transparent, itemised pricing
Chinese healthcare offers legally binding, itemised cost estimates before treatment begins, eliminating hidden fees or surprise billing. Due to national centralized procurement, total expenses remain 40–70% lower than comparable care in Western Europe or North America.
Policy channels that open the door
China facilitates access through 240-hour visa-free transit and dedicated medical visa routes. Policies like the Greater Bay Area drug pathway and Boao Lecheng’s pilot zone allow designated hospitals to administer innovative therapies not yet globally approved.
