Dr. Wang Jianping ’s Three Key Areas of Expertise

Three areas of focused expertise, each supported by a deep subspecialty team, high case volumes and an English-speaking care pathway coordinated by Orisene.

Colorectal cancer

He has performed colorectal cancer surgery for more than four decades, specialising in radical resection with total mesorectal excision and nerve preservation so that patients achieve durable tumour control while retaining bowel, urinary and sexual function after treatment in everyday clinical practice.

Sphincter-preserving surgery

He is known for sphincter-preserving operations in ultra-low rectal cancer, using careful pelvic dissection and intersphincteric techniques to remove the tumour completely while avoiding a permanent stoma, so that patients keep normal anal function and a better quality of life.

Complex and recurrent colorectal cancer

He manages locally advanced, recurrent and metastatic colorectal cancer, combining surgery for pelvic recurrence, retroperitoneal tumours and liver metastases with multidisciplinary treatment, so that patients with difficult disease still receive complete, coordinated and evidence-based care together with the newest targeted and immune therapies.

More: Crohn’s disease——surgical treatment; inflammatory bowel disease——multidisciplinary care; ileal pouch surgery——restorative proctocolectomy; retroperitoneal tumour——resection; colorectal cancer screening——early detection

Representative work drawn from documented clinical treatments, publicly indexed literature, and hospital project records, reflecting the depth of this physician's hands-on expertise and academic rigor.
1. Transanal vs Laparoscopic Total Mesorectal Excision (TaLaR Trial, 3-Year Results)
A multicenter randomized trial compared transanal total mesorectal excision (taTME) with laparoscopic TME for rectal cancer in 1,114 patients across 16 Chinese hospitals. Three-year disease-free survival was 82.1% with taTME versus 79.4% with laparoscopy, showing non-inferior oncologic safety for patients seeking sphincter-preserving rectal cancer surgery.
2. TaLaR Short-Term Surgical Outcomes (Annals of Surgery 2023)
This report presented short-term results of the TaLaR study, evaluating pelvic dissection quality, circumferential resection margin status, and postoperative recovery after transanal total mesorectal excision for low rectal cancer. The findings supported this anal-preserving minimally invasive approach for difficult mid and low rectal cancer surgery in China.
3. FOWARC Trial: Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy for Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer
The FOWARC randomized trial of 495 rectal cancer patients compared modified FOLFOX6 with or without radiation against standard chemoradiotherapy before surgery. It examined organ-preservation and tumor-downstaging strategies, informing modern neoadjuvant treatment choices for patients with locally advanced rectal cancer who wish to avoid radiotherapy.
4. First International Multicenter TaTME Trial Led by a Chinese Colorectal Team
According to Sun Yat-sen University news, the TaLaR trial was reported as the first international multicenter randomized study of transanal total mesorectal excision for rectal cancer, coordinated across 16 tertiary hospitals. It provided global evidence for patients considering transanal sphincter-preserving surgery.
5. JAMA 2025 Report on TaTME for Rectal Cancer
Published in JAMA, the trial found that transanal total mesorectal excision achieved three-year disease-free survival comparable to laparoscopic TME among 1,114 rectal cancer patients. The result reassured surgeons that the transanal approach is oncologically safe, supporting its use for difficult low rectal cancer.
6. Senior Colorectal Surgeon Profile: Rectal and Colon Cancer Surgery
The official profile summarizes decades of experience in colorectal cancer surgery, including sphincter-preserving procedures for low rectal cancer, multidisciplinary management of complex colorectal tumors, inflammatory bowel disease, and anorectal disorders, helping patients locate authoritative clinical care for colorectal cancer in Guangzhou.

  • WHY INTERNATIONAL PATIENTS CHOOSE CHINA

Why patients travel to China for treatment

Six reasons international patients now put China on their shortlist — from internationally aligned clinical capability to the policy channels that make treatment here genuinely reachable.

Clinical capability at international standard

Chinese hospitals deliver internationally aligned protocols, performing vast volumes of advanced robotic, minimally invasive, and complex transplant surgeries annually. This massive clinical data and highly specialized workforce ensure world-class outcomes, even for rare and complex cases.

Diagnostics and treatment in days, not months

A full medical workup that typically means months of waiting elsewhere is completed in China within 48–72 hours. Imaging, labs, and multidisciplinary consultations are integrated into a single visit, allowing treatment to commence immediately.

Transparent, itemised pricing

Chinese healthcare offers legally binding, itemised cost estimates before treatment begins, eliminating hidden fees or surprise billing. Due to national centralized procurement, total expenses remain 40–70% lower than comparable care in Western Europe or North America.

Policy channels that open the door

China facilitates access through 240-hour visa-free transit and dedicated medical visa routes. Policies like the Greater Bay Area drug pathway and Boao Lecheng’s pilot zone allow designated hospitals to administer innovative therapies not yet globally approved.
