Dr. Wang Xiaoping ’s Three Key Areas of Expertise
Three areas of focused expertise, each supported by a deep subspecialty team, high case volumes and an English-speaking care pathway coordinated by Orisene.
Postherpetic Neuralgia
Diagnosis and treatment of persistent neuropathic pain following herpes zoster, using medication, nerve blocks and interventional analgesic techniques to relieve burning, stabbing and shooting pain and restore sleep, mood, appetite, daily activity and independence for patients with long-standing postherpetic neuralgia.
Periarthritis of the Shoulder
Management of shoulder pain and restricted movement through nerve blocks, targeted injection therapy and structured rehabilitation, relieving inflammation and stiffness, restoring range of motion, and helping patients regain shoulder mobility and confidently return to normal daily activities, work and sleep.
Knee Osteoarthritis
Comprehensive analgesic treatment of degenerative knee joint pain, combining medication, intra-articular injection and nerve blocks to reduce pain, improve joint function and stiffness, restore walking ability and delay the need for joint replacement surgery in elderly patients with knee osteoarthritis.
More:Cervical spondylosis——nerve-block treatment of neck and arm pain; lumbar disc herniation——interventional management of radiating back and leg pain; osteoporotic pain——analgesia for vertebral compression pain; chronic intractable pain——individualised multimodal pain reliefundefined
Selected cases, research & publications
Representative work drawn from documented clinical treatments, publicly indexed literature, and hospital project records, reflecting the depth of this physician's hands-on expertise and academic rigor.
1. Postherpetic Neuralgia (PHN): Minimally Invasive Neuromodulation
Patients suffering from severe postherpetic neuralgia pain after shingles may benefit from advanced neuromodulation. In a prospective randomized trial led by Professor Wang Xiaoping, temporary spinal cord stimulation and pulsed radiofrequency were compared, with spinal cord stimulation providing greater pain relief, better sleep, and improved quality of life for patients with refractory nerve pain.

2. Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis): Diagnosis and Pain Relief
Frozen shoulder can cause progressive stiffness and night pain that restrict daily movement. Professor Wang Xiaoping evaluates shoulder pain carefully and combines medication, physical therapy, and image-guided injections to restore mobility. Thousands of patients treated at the Pain Management Department report lasting improvement in shoulder function after personalized, step-by-step rehabilitation and interventional care.

3. Knee Osteoarthritis Pain: Molecular Mechanism Research
Chronic knee osteoarthritis pain is a leading cause of disability in older adults. Professor Wang Xiaoping’s team investigated spinal SIRT1 and p53 signaling in osteoarthritis, showing that targeting the SIRT1/p53 pathway relieved persistent joint pain in experimental models. This research supports new, mechanism-based treatment strategies for patients living with knee osteoarthritis and chronic joint pain.

4. Neck and Lower Back Pain: Comprehensive Pain Center Care
Neck pain, cervical spondylosis, and lumbar disc herniation often cause persistent aching that limits work and sleep. At the Pain Management Department, Professor Wang Xiaoping builds individualized plans combining medication, non-invasive therapy, and minimally invasive intervention. Her team has cared for over one hundred thousand patients, helping them reduce pain and return to normal daily activities.

5. Expert Consensus on Nerve Block Techniques
Standardized nerve block techniques improve safety and comfort during pain treatment. Professor Wang Xiaoping led Chinese expert consensus statements on erector spinae plane block and other regional nerve blocks, defining anatomy, ultrasound-guided procedures, drug selection, and complication management. These guidelines help clinicians deliver reliable, reproducible analgesia for acute and chronic pain across the country.

6. Predicting Treatment Response with Laser Speckle Imaging
Predicting which patients respond to neuromodulation remains challenging. In a prospective observational study, Professor Wang Xiaoping’s team used laser speckle contrast imaging to monitor hand blood flow during temporary spinal cord stimulation for postherpetic neuralgia. Increased blood flow correlated with pain relief, suggesting a simple, objective indicator that may guide treatment decisions for patients with chronic nerve pain.

Why patients travel to China for treatment
Six reasons international patients now put China on their shortlist — from internationally aligned clinical capability to the policy channels that make treatment here genuinely reachable.
Clinical capability at international standard
Chinese hospitals deliver internationally aligned protocols, performing vast volumes of advanced robotic, minimally invasive, and complex transplant surgeries annually. This massive clinical data and highly specialized workforce ensure world-class outcomes, even for rare and complex cases.
Diagnostics and treatment in days, not months
A full medical workup that typically means months of waiting elsewhere is completed in China within 48–72 hours. Imaging, labs, and multidisciplinary consultations are integrated into a single visit, allowing treatment to commence immediately.
Transparent, itemised pricing
Chinese healthcare offers legally binding, itemised cost estimates before treatment begins, eliminating hidden fees or surprise billing. Due to national centralized procurement, total expenses remain 40–70% lower than comparable care in Western Europe or North America.
Policy channels that open the door
China facilitates access through 240-hour visa-free transit and dedicated medical visa routes. Policies like the Greater Bay Area drug pathway and Boao Lecheng’s pilot zone allow designated hospitals to administer innovative therapies not yet globally approved.
