About Dr. Yang Pingzhen

Professor Yang Pingzhen is Director of Cardiology and Deputy Director of the Heart Centre at Zhujiang Hospital of Southern Medical University and a nationally renowned clinical electrophysiologist. He has devoted more than twenty years to cardiac arrhythmia and interventional cardiology. In 1999 he was among the first in China to apply the CARTO three-dimensional mapping system to treat complex arrhythmias, and he has since introduced atrial fibrillation and epicardial ventricular tachycardia ablation, cardiac resynchronisation pacing, leadless pacing and pulsed field ablation. He has cured more than twenty thousand patients and holds several leading positions in national and provincial electrophysiology societies.
1、Director of Cardiology and Deputy Director of the Heart Centre at Zhujiang Hospital of Southern Medical University
2、Standing member of the Heart Rhythm Committee of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association
3、Chairman of the Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacing Branch of the Guangdong Medical Association
4、Chairman of the Heart Rhythm Committee of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Heart Association
5、First in China to apply the CARTO three-dimensional mapping system to complex arrhythmias (1999)
6、Chairman of the Guangdong Atrial Fibrillation Alliance

Dr. Yang Pingzhen ’s Three Key Areas of Expertise

Three areas of focused expertise, each supported by a deep subspecialty team, high case volumes and an English-speaking care pathway coordinated by Orisene.

Atrial fibrillation ablation

Professor Yang performs catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation, using three-dimensional mapping and advanced techniques such as pulsed field ablation to restore normal sinus rhythm, reduce symptoms and lower stroke risk for patients with this common and troubling arrhythmia in clinical practice.

Complex arrhythmia ablation

He treats complex supraventricular and ventricular arrhythmias, including epicardial ventricular tachycardia, using detailed electrophysiological mapping and radiofrequency ablation to eliminate abnormal circuits and control recurrent palpitations for patients who fail drug therapy in routine clinical practice, improving their quality of life.

Cardiac pacing and devices

Professor Yang implants pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation devices, and performs leadless pacing and lead extraction, tailoring device therapy to control bradycardia, prevent sudden cardiac death and improve heart failure symptoms in daily practice for patients with rhythm disorders.

More:paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia——ablation; heart failure——resynchronisation; hypertrophic cardiomyopathy——ablation; stroke prevention——left atrial appendage closure; arrhythmia——diagnosis

Selected cases, research & publications

Representative work drawn from documented clinical treatments, publicly indexed literature, and hospital project records, reflecting the depth of this physician's hands-on expertise and academic rigor.
1. Arrhythmias, Dementia Risk, and Neurodegeneration: A Large Cohort Study
This large cohort study investigated whether common arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation are associated with higher dementia risk and neurodegeneration. Using long-term follow-up data, it suggests that managing heart rhythm disorders may help protect brain health, informing prevention strategies for dementia in cardiac patients.
2. Pulsed Field Ablation of Epicardial Premature Ventricular Contractions via a Subxiphoid Percutaneous Approach
This case report describes pulsed field ablation of epicardial premature ventricular contractions using a subxiphoid percutaneous approach. The minimally invasive technique eliminated a difficult arrhythmia focus without open-chest surgery, offering new hope for patients with drug-refractory ventricular arrhythmias originating from epicardial sites.
3. High-Repetition-Frequency Nanosecond Pulsed Field Ablation for Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation: SCENA-AF Trial
The SCENA-AF trial evaluated high-repetition-frequency nanosecond pulsed field ablation for patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. Twelve-month outcomes showed durable pulmonary vein isolation with a favourable safety profile, supporting this novel energy source as an effective treatment to restore normal heart rhythm.
4. H-Type Hypertension and U-Shaped BMI Predict Atrial Fibrillation Recurrence After Catheter Ablation
This study identified H-type hypertension and a U-shaped body mass index pattern as predictors of atrial fibrillation recurrence after catheter ablation. The findings help electrophysiologists identify high-risk patients, control homocysteine and weight, and improve long-term rhythm outcomes after ablation in clinical practice.
5. His Bundle Pacing Combined With AV Node Ablation for Atrial Fibrillation: A Meta-Analysis
This systematic review and meta-analysis assessed His bundle pacing combined with atrioventricular node ablation for patients with atrial fibrillation and heart failure. It showed improved symptoms and ventricular synchrony compared with conventional right ventricular pacing, supporting physiologic pacing for refractory atrial fibrillation.
6. Trimethylamine N-Oxide Exacerbates Myocardial Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury
This study explored how trimethylamine N-oxide, a gut-microbiota metabolite, aggravates myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury. The findings reveal a potential therapeutic target for protecting the heart during myocardial infarction and reperfusion therapy, linking gut metabolism with cardiovascular outcomes in patients with coronary artery disease.

  • WHY INTERNATIONAL PATIENTS CHOOSE CHINA

Why patients travel to China for treatment

Six reasons international patients now put China on their shortlist — from internationally aligned clinical capability to the policy channels that make treatment here genuinely reachable.

Clinical capability at international standard

Chinese hospitals deliver internationally aligned protocols, performing vast volumes of advanced robotic, minimally invasive, and complex transplant surgeries annually. This massive clinical data and highly specialized workforce ensure world-class outcomes, even for rare and complex cases.

Diagnostics and treatment in days, not months

A full medical workup that typically means months of waiting elsewhere is completed in China within 48–72 hours. Imaging, labs, and multidisciplinary consultations are integrated into a single visit, allowing treatment to commence immediately.

Transparent, itemised pricing

Chinese healthcare offers legally binding, itemised cost estimates before treatment begins, eliminating hidden fees or surprise billing. Due to national centralized procurement, total expenses remain 40–70% lower than comparable care in Western Europe or North America.

Policy channels that open the door

China facilitates access through 240-hour visa-free transit and dedicated medical visa routes. Policies like the Greater Bay Area drug pathway and Boao Lecheng’s pilot zone allow designated hospitals to administer innovative therapies not yet globally approved.
