About Dr. Zeng Jinsheng

Professor Zeng Jinsheng is Vice President of the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, academic leader of its Department of Neurology and Director of the Guangdong Key Laboratory for Major Neurological Disease. He has devoted more than thirty years to cerebrovascular disease, focusing on the prevention and treatment of stroke. His research covers intracranial atherosclerosis, cerebral small vessel disease and secondary prevention of stroke, and he has led national guidelines on cerebral venous sinus thrombosis and studies of antiplatelet therapy. He served as chairman of the Neurology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association and has trained many neurologists.

Dr. Zeng Jinsheng ’s Three Key Areas of Expertise

Three areas of focused expertise, each supported by a deep subspecialty team, high case volumes and an English-speaking care pathway coordinated by Orisene.

Cerebral infarction

He diagnoses and treats ischaemic stroke with thrombolysis, antiplatelet therapy and comprehensive secondary prevention, using imaging to identify the cause and tailoring treatment to reduce the risk of recurrence and improve recovery and long-term function for stroke survivors in routine practice.

Cerebrovascular stenosis

He manages intracranial and extracranial atherosclerotic stenosis, using high-resolution imaging, haemodynamic assessment and medication or intervention to prevent recurrent stroke in patients with symptomatic narrowing of the brain's arteries and other vascular risk factors in clinical practice and long-term follow-up.

Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis

He diagnoses and treats cerebral venous sinus thrombosis and other rare cerebrovascular disorders, leading national guidelines on their clinical management and providing anticoagulation and individualised care for patients with these uncommon but serious conditions that affect the brain and its circulation.

More:cerebral small vessel disease——management; stroke rehabilitation——recovery; transient ischaemic attack——prevention; hypertension——stroke risk; neuroimaging——diagnosis

Selected cases, research & publications

Representative work drawn from documented clinical treatments, publicly indexed literature, and hospital project records, reflecting the depth of this physician's hands-on expertise and academic rigor.
1. Phase II Trial of CG-BM1 Stem Cell Therapy for Ischemic Stroke
Professor Zeng Jinsheng led the phase II trial of CG-BM1, an allogeneic human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell injection for ischemic stroke, the first domestically developed stem cell product in this field in China. Phase I data showed good safety across doses and promising neurological recovery, offering a novel regenerative treatment option for stroke patients with disability.
2. HRS-7450: A Novel Thrombolytic for Acute Ischemic Stroke Beyond 4.5 Hours
As principal investigator, Professor Zeng Jinsheng conducted the phase 1b study of HRS-7450, a novel plasminogen activator for acute ischemic stroke presenting 4.5 to 24 hours after onset. In 63 patients, no symptomatic intracranial haemorrhage occurred within 36 hours and bleeding risk was lower than standard thrombolysis, supporting a wider treatment window.
3. RERISE: Reperfusion Therapy for Minor Ischemic Stroke in China (NCT07322835)
The RERISE study is a nationwide multicenter prospective cohort led by Professor Zeng Jinsheng, evaluating reperfusion therapy for minor ischemic stroke with NIHSS scores of five or less. Across roughly 5,400 patients, it compares intravenous thrombolysis with or without endovascular treatment against standard medication, measuring ninety-day functional recovery and symptomatic haemorrhage.
4. Stroke Center Certification and Intravenous Thrombolysis in South China
This study evaluated how stroke center certification across 336 hospitals in South China affected intravenous thrombolysis from 2020 to 2022. As centers increased, thrombolysis treatments rose from 12,795 to 20,411 yearly and rates climbed from 7.2 to 10.4 percent, showing that organised stroke center networks markedly widen access to clot-dissolving treatment.
5. Motor Pathway Changes and Recovery After Subcortical Infarction
This diffusion tensor imaging study followed patients for twelve weeks after subcortical infarction to clarify how the motor pathway above the lesion changes during recovery. Increasing axial diffusivity in the ipsilesional primary motor area correlated with greater motor improvement, providing imaging evidence that supports early rehabilitation and prognostic assessment for stroke survivors.
6. Case Report: Postpartum Cerebral Arterial Fat Embolism Rescued
A 26-year-old woman collapsed after caesarean delivery and was initially diagnosed with hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy. Professor Zeng Jinsheng reviewed her original CT images, identified cerebral arterial fat embolism, and directed emergency treatment and rehabilitation. She recovered enough to live independently, a case widely discussed for revealing this hidden postpartum stroke risk.

  • WHY INTERNATIONAL PATIENTS CHOOSE CHINA

Why patients travel to China for treatment

Six reasons international patients now put China on their shortlist — from internationally aligned clinical capability to the policy channels that make treatment here genuinely reachable.

Clinical capability at international standard

Chinese hospitals deliver internationally aligned protocols, performing vast volumes of advanced robotic, minimally invasive, and complex transplant surgeries annually. This massive clinical data and highly specialized workforce ensure world-class outcomes, even for rare and complex cases.

Diagnostics and treatment in days, not months

A full medical workup that typically means months of waiting elsewhere is completed in China within 48–72 hours. Imaging, labs, and multidisciplinary consultations are integrated into a single visit, allowing treatment to commence immediately.

Transparent, itemised pricing

Chinese healthcare offers legally binding, itemised cost estimates before treatment begins, eliminating hidden fees or surprise billing. Due to national centralized procurement, total expenses remain 40–70% lower than comparable care in Western Europe or North America.

Policy channels that open the door

China facilitates access through 240-hour visa-free transit and dedicated medical visa routes. Policies like the Greater Bay Area drug pathway and Boao Lecheng’s pilot zone allow designated hospitals to administer innovative therapies not yet globally approved.
