Dr. Zhang Minzhou ’s Three Key Areas of Expertise

Three areas of focused expertise, each supported by a deep subspecialty team, high case volumes and an English-speaking care pathway coordinated by Orisene.

Acute myocardial infarction

He provides integrative emergency treatment and green-channel emergency care; he established a nationally accredited chest pain center and a Chinese-Western emergency pathway that shortens treatment time, prevents ventricular remodeling and improves survival, recovery and outcomes for critically ill cardiac patients

Coronary artery disease

He performs percutaneous coronary intervention with perioperative TCM care; he combines coronary stenting with herbal therapy to reduce complications and support recovery, using syndrome-differentiated medicines such as Kuanxiong Aerosol and Shexiang Tongxin Dropping Pill for patients with angina and blood-stasis patterns

Severe cardiovascular disease

He leads an academic team in cardiovascular critical care; using syndrome-differentiated herbal formulas he works to stabilize complex critically ill patients, preventing ventricular remodeling and addressing conditions such as angina, hypertension and heart failure within an integrative Chinese-Western intensive care framework

More: angina——Kuanxiong Aerosol and herbal therapy; hypertension——integrative blood pressure control; heart failure——TCM prevention and conditioning; cardiovascular prevention——long-term risk management

Selected cases, research & publications

Representative work drawn from documented clinical treatments, publicly indexed literature, and hospital project records, reflecting the depth of this physician's hands-on expertise and academic rigor.
1. Stent Plus Tongguan Capsule in a 104-Year-Old Heart Attack Patient
Zhang Minzhou’s team implanted a coronary stent in a 104-year-old man with acute myocardial infarction, then added the self-developed Tongguan capsule. Followed for six years with good recovery, the case set a medical world record and shows the rescue-heart, treat-heart, nourish-heart integrated approach for very elderly patients.
2. First Integrated Chinese-Western Guideline for Acute Myocardial Infarction
Zhang Minzhou led the first Chinese and English guideline for integrated Chinese and Western medicine diagnosis and treatment of acute myocardial infarction. Building on Chen Keji’s blood-stasis and Deng Tietao’s heart-spleen theories, it standardises reperfusion plus qi-tonifying, blood-activating herbal therapy and has been widely promoted in Chinese hospitals.
3. Qi-Tonifying Herbs After Reperfusion for Heart Attack
Research by Zhang Minzhou’s group shows that adding qi-tonifying, blood-activating and phlegm-resolving Chinese herbs to standard reperfusion therapy reduces major adverse cardiovascular events, shortens hospital stays and lowers costs. Basic studies confirm improved heart function, fewer reperfusion arrhythmias and reduced myocardial remodelling in acute myocardial infarction patients.
4. Rescue, Treat and Nourish the Heart: Three-in-One Model
Professor Zhang Minzhou proposed a three-in-one model of rescuing, treating and nourishing the heart for myocardial infarction, covering emergency reperfusion, in-hospital integrated care and long-term cardiac rehabilitation. The model underpins the chest pain centre at Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine and earned a 2021 Guangdong Science and Technology Progress Award First Prize.
5. Tongguan Capsule for Coronary Heart Disease After Intervention
Tongguan capsule, developed by Zhang Minzhou using qi-tonifying and blood-activating principles, supports patients with coronary heart disease after stenting. Clinical experience and research report benefits for myocardial protection and microcirculation, and the preparation won first prize at a Guangzhou craftsmanship innovation competition, reflecting his integration of herbal medicine with cardiac intervention.
6. Among China’s Top 100 Critical Care Scholars
In the 2018-2022 ranking of academic influence in critical care medicine, Professor Zhang Minzhou placed 42nd nationally and was the only expert from a Chinese medicine hospital in the top 100. The ranking, based on overseas publications, recognises his research on severe cardiovascular disease and intensive care at Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine.

  • WHY INTERNATIONAL PATIENTS CHOOSE CHINA

Why patients travel to China for treatment

Six reasons international patients now put China on their shortlist — from internationally aligned clinical capability to the policy channels that make treatment here genuinely reachable.

Clinical capability at international standard

Chinese hospitals deliver internationally aligned protocols, performing vast volumes of advanced robotic, minimally invasive, and complex transplant surgeries annually. This massive clinical data and highly specialized workforce ensure world-class outcomes, even for rare and complex cases.

Diagnostics and treatment in days, not months

A full medical workup that typically means months of waiting elsewhere is completed in China within 48–72 hours. Imaging, labs, and multidisciplinary consultations are integrated into a single visit, allowing treatment to commence immediately.

Transparent, itemised pricing

Chinese healthcare offers legally binding, itemised cost estimates before treatment begins, eliminating hidden fees or surprise billing. Due to national centralized procurement, total expenses remain 40–70% lower than comparable care in Western Europe or North America.

Policy channels that open the door

China facilitates access through 240-hour visa-free transit and dedicated medical visa routes. Policies like the Greater Bay Area drug pathway and Boao Lecheng’s pilot zone allow designated hospitals to administer innovative therapies not yet globally approved.
